The new $23.5 million health centre in Repulse Bay is officially open.
A May 11 celebration marked the official opening of the health centre, which included a sealskin ribbon-cutting by health minister Keith Peterson, Lorne Kusugak, the minister of Community and Government Services, Akulliq MLA John Ningark, Nattik MLA Jeannie Ugyuk, and Repulse Bay Mayor Hugh Haqpi.
“The new health centre is a positive addition to the community,” Peterson said in a Government of Nunavut news release. “Our new facility will improve community access and better support our professional health care team in the delivery of high-quality health services.”
The new health centre includes five two-bedroom apartments for nurses and social workers.
The health centre has what the GN called “a contemporary design.” The same model, which features an open-concept entry floor plan, will be used for future health centres built in Nunavut, the GN said.
The new health centre replaces the previous, 30-year-old health centre, which opened in 1983.
