Nunavut premier names new principal secretary
Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak has hired a new top staffer.
Paul Crowley, a long-time Iqaluit lawyer, will take over the post Sept. 6, said a Government of Nunavut news release Aug. 2.
“Paul has extensive experience as a strategic advisor and manager working collaboratively across local, national and international levels,” Aariak said in a statement. “Paul is a welcome addition to my team, and I look forward to working together in the years to come.”
Crowley replaces Joe Adla Kunuk, who served as the premier’s point man since this past January. Kunuk moved to the deputy minister’s job at the Department of Human Resources July 29.
Crowley is the former legal council for the Qikiqtani Inuit Association and its predecessor, the Baffin Regional Inuit Association.
He’s also worked for the Qikiqtani Truth Commission, the Nunavut Social Development Council and served as legal counsel for Nobel Prize nominee Sheila Watt-Cloutier.
He currently works at the International Development Law Organization in Rome.
