Nunavut RCMP make arrest, lay charges in Pond Inlet shooting
Local man, 27, faces eight charges

Nunavut police have charged a Pond Inlet man in connection with an early morning shooting incident June 6 in the north Baffin community of about 1,700 people.
RCMP members responded to a report of shots fired outside a residence located in the 1100 block in Pond Inlet at about 3:30 a.m.
When police arrived, they saw what appeared to be bullet holes in a vehicle and in the front window of a residence where the vehicle was parked.
People were reported to be standing around the home and vehicle at the time of the shooting, RCMP said, although no one was injured.
Now a local man, 27-year-old Jamie Ootoovak, faces eight charges:
• two counts of discharging a firearm;
• one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited;
• one count of failure to comply with probation order;
• two counts of careless use of a firearm;
• one count of pointing a firearm; and,
• one count of assault.
Ootoovak is scheduled to appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit June 14.
