Nunavut RCMP investigating “sudden death of an adult” in Pangnirtung

Amidst the celebrations around the return of Pangnirtung’s bowhead whalers, the announcement of a troubling development in the community: RCMP major crime investigators and forensic identification services have flown to Pangnirtung to investigate “the sudden death of an adult at a local residence.”

The investigators from RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services are assisting members of the Pangnirtung RCMP detachment with the investigation which started Aug. 8, an RCMP statement said.

The RCMP statement did not give the gender, age or identity of the dead person, saying they are withholding the name “out of respect for the family.”

Sources in the community told Nunatsiaq News that the deceased was a young woman.
