Sandra Inutiq of Iqaluit will serve as the new executive director of the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council, the council announced June 14.
Inutiq, who will start the job July 3, succeeds Shyla Elliott.
“I am so glad that Sandra Inutiq will be starting at the council. With Sandra Inutiq’s experience and skills, she will be a great asset. Congratulations,” Monica Ell, the Nunavut minister responsible for the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council said in a news release.
Inutiq, a graduate of the Akitsiraq Law School, is the first Inuk woman to be admitted to the Nunavut bar.
“The council is confident that she will further our mandate to advocate for, and support, women’s improved quality of life and participation and leadership in society,” Charlotte Borg, the acting president of the council, said in a news release.
She has also served on the Labour Standards Board, the Nunavut Judicial Advisory Committee, the legal services board, the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Task Force and the Aboriginal Justice Learning Network Advisory Council.
