The RCMP in Kimmirut says a local woman died this week from cold exposure.
On Nov. 11, police in this south Baffin community received a call about an unresponsive woman who had been discovered outdoors.
RCMP spokesman David Lawson said that when police and a community nurse arrived at the scene just after 10:00 a.m., the woman was already deceased.
Police believe the 31-year-old died of exposure to the cold.
No foul play is suspected, although police say they believe alcohol consumption is a factor
It’s the second such death to occur in Nunavut in less than a month.
On Oct. 31, a Nunavut man, 22, found frozen and unconscious in Clyde River, later died.
Police said then that no foul play was suspected in the man’s death, although believe alcohol consumption is also believed to have been a factor.
