Nunavut Tourism has nominated Auyuittuq National Park’s Mount Thor for virtualtourist.com’s “8th Wonder of The World” contest.

This peak, located 46 kilometres northeast of Pangnirtung, features the world’s greatest vertical drop — 1,250 metres — and attracts climbers and hikers from around the world.

You can vote for Mount Thor here between June 3 and Sept. 30, once a day, every day, Nunavut Tourism suggests.

If Mount Thor wins the contest, in addition to major exposure for this landmark and Nunavut on virtualtourist.com, Mount Thor will be featured on a segment of the television travel show “Extra.”

Various lists of the seven Wonders of the World have been compiled for more than 2,000 years to catalogue the world’s most spectacular natural wonders and manmade structures — such as the Pyramids, Stonehenge, Grand Canyon, Great Barrier Reef and Mount Everest.
