The Northern Store in Pangnirtung was the victim of an armed robbery for the second time this month, following an Oct. 27 incident.

Just after 10:00 p.m. that evening, RCMP in the Baffin community responded to reports of a robbery with a weapon alleged to have occurred while a Northern employee was closing the store, the RCMP said in an Oct. 28 release.

A lone male is reported to have approached the employee to demand his backpack, which contained personal items. When the employee handed over the green Jack Wolfskin bag, the man fled on foot.

Police are looking for the public’s help in locating the robber. He is described as approximately five feet, four inches in height, with a thin build.

He was reported to have been wearing a blue bandana across his face, a dark, hooded sweater and dark clothing.

No one was injured in the incident.

It’s the second robbery at the Pangnirtung store this month; on Oct. 5, RCMP arrested and charged another local man with armed robbery after he was alleged to have taken money from a store employee who was making a cash deposit.

In connection with the first incident, James Qiyuaqyuk, 20, is to appear in court in Iqaluit this month on charges of armed robbery, breach of probation and mischief.

Anyone who has information on the most recent robbery should contact the RCMP at 867-473-0123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
