Photo: A look inside CHARS

A dancer by Sammy Kudluk of Kuujjuaq is one of several designs on the floors of the knowledge-sharing centre in the main building of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station in Cambridge Bay. “The drum dancers stand out as a very unique representation of Kitikmeot society in that part of Inuit Nunangat,” he told CHARS in submitting his design. “When I drew the dancers, I could hear them very loudly and imagine the strong cultural connection to their past and heritage…. Every time I watch and hear the drum dancers perform, it makes me want to dance with them.” See more later, when Nunatsiaq News offers a peek inside the research station. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
