Photo: A new hotel in Umiujaq

Nicole Ménard, Quebec’s minister of tourism, left and Pierre Corbeil, minister of agriculture were in Nunavik and northern Quebec last week. The pair stopped in Umiujaq Jan.13, where they announced $300,000 for the community’s new hotel (the yellow building in the background to the left.) The money flows from the province’s new assistance program aimed at developing tourism projects in northern Quebec under its Plan Nord. Umiujaq’s new hotel will accomodate the visitors expected to come to the region once the nearby Tursujuq Park opens. (PHOTO COURTESY OF QUEBEC’S DEPT. OF TOURISM)
