The new Nuuk Centre held its grand opening July 27 in Nuuk, Greenland to tremendous fanfare, says Per Steen Larsen, the chief executive officer of Pisiffik, the major grocery chain in Greenland. Larsen compared the event to a national holiday, with people lining the street to catch a glimpse of Greenland’s first shopping mall, which is now closer to Iqaluit than any other. “It was history. This has never been done before,” Larsen said. The Nuuk Centre features 24 stores occupying 25,000 square metres of space. The centre also features underground parking and office space.
