Here’s a look at the new Community Science Centre located in the twin Hudson Bay communities of Kuujjuaraapik and Whapmagoostui. Architects from Fournier, Gersovitz, Moss, Drolet and associates designed the building for the Centre d’Etudes Nordiques at Laval university to meets the needs of visiting scientists as well as the communities’ Cree and Inuit residents. Inside, there’s a large hall with enough space to host visiting school groups and to display a permanent exhibition on the area’s cultural and scientific history. The building also contains many “green” features, including passive solar heating and south-facing windows. (PHOTO BY CLAUDE TREMBLAY)
