Photo: A no to seismic testing off Baffin Island in 2015

Today, he learned there there will be no seismic testing off the east coast of Baffin Island this year. Nader Hasan, lawyer for Natanine and other opponents to seismic testing, said May 27 that the companies wishing to conduct seismic testing contacted him on May 25 to say they have informed the National Energy Board that they have cancelled their project for 2015. The Federal Court of Appeal is currently deliberating whether to overturn the NEB’s approval of seismic testing near Clyde River but the ice-free season is fast approaching and it’s possible the company could have begun seismic testing in July, before a court decision came down. Hasan said the company made a “sensible decision” to respect the judicial process and maintain the status quo while everyone awaits the outcome of the judicial hearing.
