Photo: A rainbow shines on Iqaluit

A magnificent rainbow, produced by rays of light from the setting sun passing through droplets of water in the atmosphere, soars across the northeast corner of the sky above Iqaluit July 21 at about 8:45 p.m. A second rainbow arc, also visible in this picture, is produced by light reflected twice by water droplets, and displays the colours of the visible spectrum in reverse order. In many of the world’s cultures, rainbows are imagined as pathways between Earth and Heaven. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
