Photo: a rising tide lifts all boats

High tide in Iqaluit Aug. 13, under the influence of a supermoon, or perigee, that developed Aug. 10, bringing the moon closer to Earth than at any other time in 2014. The Iqaluit tide rose to a height of 11.6 metres, or about 38 feet at 8:46 p.m. that evening. The highest tide this month, 11.7 metres, was recorded Aug. 12 at 8:01 p.m. The supermoon effect occurs when the moon’s orbit takes it close to Earth, making it appear bigger and brighter than normal.
