Photo: A slow crawl through icy Ungava Bay

Here’s a view from the deck of the CCGS Terry Fox as it makes its way through the thick ice on Ungava Bay last week, guiding the M/V Anna Desgagnés towards Kangirsuk. The Terry Fox is the only icebreaker currently stationed in Ungava Bay, where the crew is busy escorting a number of sealift vessels to and from communities in Nunavik. The department of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard said July 15 that another Coast Guard ship will be available for icebreaking assistance in Ungava Bay if and when needed.
