Photo: A tree grows in Cambridge Bay

Could this small black spruce some day become Cambridge Bay’s first tall tree? Doug Stern, who has lived in Cambridge Bay for 29 years, located well above the tree-line, this past summer planted this tiny spruce, along with other seedlings, in a trench filled with topsoil and circled it with qiviuq from local muskox — and it flourished.
