Photo: A week to thank your teacher, Nunavut premier declares

Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak, who also serves as the territory’s education minister spent an enjoyable morning at the Aqsaarniit middle school in Iqaluit April 23, when she marked the start of Education Week in Nunavut with a speech and the viewing of three videos on bullying and substance abuse produced, written and directed by Aqsaarniit students. Aariak said this week is a time for everyone to reflect on teachers who made a difference in their lives: “This week is about thanking that teacher and letting him or her know how important they are to you,” she said. Aariak also announced a video contest for all Nunavut schools that includes Blackberry Playbooks as prizes. Students are invited to produce short videos on this year’s theme “Learning is Everywhere.” The deadline is May 18. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
