A carpet of frost flowers blossoms on the beach in Cambridge Bay. For frost flowers to form, you need a minimum temperature difference of 15 C between the surface and the air. At freeze-up time in Cambridge Bay, you can see these flowers on the surface of the ice and on the sand near sea water. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
