Premier Eva Aariak with David Akeeagok, the Government of Nunavut’s chief negotiator for devolution, at a press conference held May 22 in Iqaluit to announce Akearok’s appointment to the job. In addition to his negotiating duties, Akeeagok will continue serving as deputy minister of the GN’s environment department. This past May 18, the federal government announced that Dale Drown will serve as Ottawa’s chief negotiator for an agreement devolving responsibility for public lands and resources from the federal government to Nunavut.
