Photo: A free man, Van Eindhoven sentenced to time served after manslaughter plea

Now a free man, Adrian Van Eindhoven walks out of the Iqaluit courthouse shortly after 5 p.m. July 15 carrying a white sack filled with his possessions. A Nunavut deputy judge accepted a joint submission from Crown and defence lawyers that saw Van Eindhoven plead guilty to manslaughter in the brutal 2004 stabbing death of Leanne Irkootee in Rankin Inlet. Van Eindhoven, in prison for more than 12 years, successfully appealed two second-degree murder convictions before pleading guilty to manslaughter July 15.
