Air Inuit president Pita Aatami holds up the carving the company received June 2 as the winner of this year’s Nunavik Regional Tourism Award. The Nunavik Tourism Association presented the awards during a gala supper which coincided with their annual general meeting in Kuujjuaq June 2 and June 3. The soapstone peregrine falcon carving was made by the late Kangiqsujuaq artist Joanasi Kaitak. Aatami paid tribute to long time Inuk bush pilot Johnny May, right, for 50 years of service, Inuit pilot Norman Grist, left, for 25 years of service and Jean-Guy Lavoie, far right, for 12 years of service as an Air Inuit mechanic. At the AGM, Johnny May was voted in president of the Nunavik Tourism Association. (PHOTO BY ISABELLE DUBOIS/COURTESY NUNAVIK TOURISM)
