Photo: Arctic Bay on display in downtown Ottawa

Winter light, both real and artificial: Sipporah Ejangiaq of Arctic Bay surveys a screen in one of 18 photographs currently on display in downtown Ottawa as part of a Fulbright Canada-sponsored exhibition called “Under the Same Stars (Ulluriat ataanittuinait).” Alaska-born photographer Acacia Johnson spent four months in Arctic Bay this past winter to gather images of dark, winter landscapes but she says she found herself more drawn to the people. From thousands of photos, she had to quickly whittle down a variety of images for the show, an extremely difficult task, she said.
