A member of Team Nunavik–Québec’s cultural contingent, Qulliq Band takes the stage March 9 at the Arctic Winter Games’ cultural gala, hosted at the Katuaq arts centre in Nuuk. The young Nunavimmiut rockers were a crowd favourite at the event, playing Inuktitut-language covers of classic northern songs to an audience in the arts centre’s lobby. Qulliq, made up of musicians aged 14 to 16, formed in 2014 through a performing arts program at Iguarsivik school in Puvirnituq. A second cultural gala featuring performers from across the circumpolar world will be held in Nuuk March 10. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
