Taqralik Partridge, originally from Kuujjuaq and currently living in Ottawa, performs an original spoken word poem during a performance of “Kiviuq Returns” March 19 in Iqaluit. The performance was part of a finale showcase event in Nunavut’s capital following the week-long Qaggiq Performing Arts Summit, touted as the largest ever gathering of artists from Inuit Nunangat. The gathering was held to check in with Inuit artists on what kind of supports they need, for example, and how best to teach art to children. Qaggiq, a project dedicated to northern performing arts and to building a northern performance centre, won the prestigious Arctic Inspiration Prize Jan. 27 and was handed $600,000 to promote their work.
