Photo: Ataata Mary honoured by Iqaluit exhibit

An exhibition of drawings, books, posters and photographs celebrating the late Father Guy Mary-Rousselière is now on display in the lobby of the Nunavut legislature in Iqaluit. Born in France, “Ataata Mary” served as an Oblate missionary in northern Canada for 57 years until he died in 1994 at age 81, when a fire consumed his house in Pond Inlet. Mary-Rousselière is renowned for his archeological work and his research into Inuit history. The exhibit was put together by Lorraine Branson of the Eskimo Museum in Churchill, Man.
