The empty parking lot at Nakasuk School in Iqaluit on the morning of Jan. 26. Authorities closed all schools, including Nunavut Arctic College, in Iqaluit after a wave of hyper-frigid weather prompted Environment Canada to issue an extreme cold warning. Municipal services were also taken off the roads. As of 5 a.m. this morning, the temperature dropped to -43 C. Winds gusting to 53 km/h produced a windchill estimate of -65 C.
