Photo: Back to Resolute Bay

Capt. Mark Gillard, who was born in Toronto, Ont., joined the RCMP in Winnipeg in September 1978 and was posted to Resolute Bay in June 1983 and served there until 1985. On the Canada Day parade in 1983, dressed in his red serge uniform, Gillard posed in front of an outfitters hotel owned by High Arctic International for a portrait. Gillard went on to join the Canadian Forces as a logistics supply officer in 2010. He was able to visit Resolute Bay once again Aug. 5 during Operation Nanook 2013, holding the portrait that was taken there 30 years earlier. Read more about Operation Nanook on Nunatsiaqonline.ca.
