Photo: Baffin caribou management meetings wrap up in Iqaluit

Representatives from Baffin Island’s HTOs and elder advisory committees, as well as from the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and the territory’s environment department pose for a group photo in Iqaluit Nov. 4 at the conclusion of the two-day Baffin caribou community consultation. Gabriel Nirlungayuk, the GN’s deputy minister of the environment, told Nunatsiaq News, “We have a management plan for polar bear, for narwhal, now for Baffin Island there is a consensus that we ought to look at drafting a management plan for caribou immediately.” See story later on nunatsiaqonline.ca.
