Visibility remains poor in Iqaluit on April 5, due to blowing snow with wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres/hour, conditions which prompted city officials to close down municipal services and shut down roads in the afternoon.


Visibility remains poor in Iqaluit on April 5, due to blowing snow with wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres/hour, conditions which prompted city officials to close down municipal services and shut down roads in the afternoon. “The City of Iqaluit is now officially closed for this afternoon,” read a public service announcement posted on-line shortly before 1 p.m.. The Government of Nunavut, the federal government and organizations sent their employees home, Northmart decided to close its doors at 2 p.m. along many other local businesses, and the Qikiqtani General Hospital announced it would receive emergency cases only.
