Photo: Bob Rae gives keynote address at law conference

Bob Rae, the former interim leader of the federal Liberal party and former NDP premier of Ontario, giving a noon-hour keynote speech June 20 at the Canadian Bar Association’s aboriginal law conference in Iqaluit. In a speech that focused on why governments often resist sharing their sovereignty and authority with aboriginal peoples, he said that if governments knew what would happen later, they would not have put Section 35 into the constitution in late 1981.
