Photo: Buffy Sainte-Marie brings the TRC’s big week to a close

Buffy Sainte-Marie brought the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s big week to a close June 3 with a rousing late afternoon concert at Ottawa City Hall. To acknowledge the Aboriginal residential school experience, her set included a number called “Boarding School Blues,” written by the late Floyd Red Crow Westerman, the famous Native American musician and actor. She also played songs from her latest album, Power in the Blood, released this past May 12. Earlier in the day, invited guests attended a closing ceremony for the TRC at Rideau Hall attended by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq, along with Peter Irniq and Rebekah Williams of Nunavut and ITK president Terry Audla.
