Photo: Butting out is beautiful

Iqaluit High School students (from left) Keisha Alurut, Apphia Kullualik, Nallie Lucassie, Tuqqaasi Nuqingaq, and Emilia Nevin stand in front of the sculptures they created out of 8,000 discarded cigarette butts Jan. 16. The students worked with artist Danny Osborne to create the sculptures as part of the “Butting Out is Beautiful” project, as part of a larger Government of Nunavut anti-smoking campaign. It is estimated that Nunavummiut spent $42 million on tobacco products last year. The sculpture will be on display at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum until Friday Jan. 20. (PHOTO BY DEAN MORRISON)
