Kids wearing “North West Run for Diabetes” t-shirts take a break Sept. 7. They were among 70 people in Cambridge Bay who participated in the first North West Run for Diabetes walk Sept. 7 around the western Nunavut community. The event, also held in Rankin Inlet, included a 2.5 kilometre “kids fun run, a five-km walk and a five-km run, followed by snacks at the Northern store. The North West Co.’s marketing director David Lui said “we wanted to find a fun activity that the entire community would want to participate in while at the same time promoting healthy living.” The North West Co. has been raising money for the Canadian Diabetes Association since 2002.
