Photo: CamBay pharmacy faces uncertain future
Pharmacist Ehab Meshrif reads up on a medication at Kitnuna’s pharmacy in Cambridge Bay. The pharmacy, whose contracts with the Government of Nunavut have been renewed temporarily for months, will see its latest contract end March 31. After that, its future is uncertain. The GN’s health and social services department has already moved to implement a plan, which would see a pharmacy technician (already in place in Cambridge Bay), consulting with a long-distance pharmacist to distribute medications at the Kitikmeot health centre and in the region’s other communities. Look to discussions in the Nunavut legislature for clues about the future of the Kitnuna Pharmacy — the only place in Cambridge Bay to buy medications and some over-the-counter products or to develop photos. Coverage on the territorial budget, tabled Feb. 22 in the Nunavut legislature, starts today on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
