A group of Dawn Doyle’s Grade 9 Kiilinik High School students in Cambridge Bay celebrated Anne Frank recently by writing their own diaries to her as they read her memoir, Diary of Anne Frank. To honour her memory they also baked her a cake. Anne Frank, a Jewish school girl from Amsterdam, Holland, wrote her diary during a two-year period when she lived in hiding from the Nazis with her family. In 1944, she was captured by the Gestapo and sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where she died in 1945. Since its publication in 1947, her diary has become an enduring classic and has been translated into more than 60 languages. (PHOTO COURTESY OF ANNE DANIEL, VICE PRINCIPAL KIILINIK HIGH SCHOOL)
