Photo: Canadian airline makes rare flight to Antarctic research base

A Kenn Borek Air Ltd. Twin Otter is being credited for the successful June 22 medical evacuation of two patients stationed at the National Science Foundation research station in the South Pole. The Calgary-based aircraft made the nine-hour, 2,400-kilometre trip to the Antarctic Peninsula, which is generally closed to air traffic between February and October due to the constant darkness and -60 degrees Celsius temperatures.
