Photo: Cape Dorset loses an artist

Residents of Cape Dorset are saying goodbye today to accomplished carver and drawing artist Jutai Toonoo, who died suddenly over the holidays. Here, Toonoo is pictured at an exhibition of his drawings at Feheley Fine Arts in Toronto. The 56-year-old artist came from a family of artists, including his sister, carver Oviloo Tunnillie. “Jutai’s drawings and sculptures remain and will serve as an eternal tribute to his extraordinary talent,” Feheley Fine Arts posted to its Facebook page. “He was also a philosopher and a poet and had such a dynamic presence that will be missed greatly by his family, his community and all of us who had the privilege to know him.” (PHOTO COURTESY FEHELEY FINE ARTS)
