Nunavik singer Elisapie Isaac does not qualify for a Juno nomination as a “breakthrough artist of the year” for her her 2012 album “Travelling Love,” the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has determined. That’s because Isaac, who performs under the name Elisapie, already received a Juno award for Taima, the best aboriginal recording of 2005. “It’s very unfortunate that this situation occurred, and it in no way reflects on the authenticity of Elisapie’s unique talent and artistry,” a statement from CARAS president Melanie Berry said. The nominations were announced Feb. 19. The Juno awards ceremony takes place April 21 in Regina. (FILE IMAGE)
