Photo: Cathy Towtongie to run in NTI election

Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Cathy Towntongie stands Oct. 25 in front of a display promoting the organization at NTI’s annual general meeting in Iqaluit. In her closing remarks, given late in the evening of Oct. 25, Towtongie told delegates that she plans to run for re-election in NTI’s Dec. 10 presidential vote. Towtongie was elected president in a by-election held Dec. 13, 2010, and previously held the job between 2001 and 2004. Candidates for the Dec. 10 election must file nomination papers with the NTI chief returning officer no later than 5 p.m. local time Nov. 2.
