Photo: CBC national phone-in show focuses on Nunavut youth

Duncan McCue, left at microphone, guest host of CBC Radio’s popular Sunday call-in show Cross Country Check-up, asks panelists to weigh in on how to build a future for Nunavut youth during a live broadcast of the show from the Anglican Parish hall in Iqaluit March 6. Those panelists included Jesse Mike, chair of the Nunavut Sivuniksavut board, Nunavut deputy premier Monica Ell-Kanayuk and Terry Audla, former president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and currently president of the Nunavut Housing Corporation. More than 100 Iqalungmiut came out to participate in the two-hour event and some even took to the microphone — youth, elders, entrepreneurs and educators among them — to offer suggestions on how to engage youth in school, in the community and on the job. Canadians also joined the debate over the phone from across the country. Read more about that lively discussion later, on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY LISA GREGOIRE)
