Photo: Climate change research in the land of the reindeer

A reindeer trots through a study site in northern Sweden, where an international team of researchers has installed automated chambers. These measure the greenhouse gases which are released from the soil as microbes digest nutrients from the thawing permafrost. The study, recently released in Nature, will help see how much climate-warming methane gases comes from permafrost when it thaws. (HANDOUT PHOTO)
