Photo: Construction starts on Iqaluit’s new cemetery

Construction is set to begin on Iqaluit’s new cemetery Sept. 18. “Please expect delays while travelling along the Road to Rotary Park, while the City’s contractor works to develop the site and upgrade the road,” a City of Iqaluit public service announcement said Sept. 16. The cemetery has been a long time coming for Iqaluit — the city has been looking for a new site since at least 2003. The cemetery is expected to be 3.4 hectares and will eventually hold more 1,300 burial sites over a three-phased construction approach. (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
