Photo: Consultation on new Quebec park in Nunavik

Alain Thibault from Quebec’s Department of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks talks Nov. 21 during a public meeting in Kangiqsualujjuaq about plans for the future Ulittaniujalik Provincial Park. The park, “parc national des Mont-Pyramides,” is supposed to protect lands in and around the George River plateau, about 120 kilometres south of Kangiqsualujjuaq, and shelter this region from some of the huge mining and mineral development projects expected to roll out of Plan Nord. A similar public consultation takes place Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. in Kuujjuaq’s Kaitittavik town hall. (PHOTO BY PASCAL POULIN)
