Photo: Crane topples in Pang harbour

A week after a crane working on the $17-million new port facility in Pangnirtung tumbled over, the 120-tonne piece of heavy equipment still lies its side on the dredging platform while other pieces of machinery lie on the shore. The port was to be finished this summer. Meanwhile, contractors with Industry Canada are looking for a new crane that could be shipped in to complete the remaining work. Mayor Sakiasie Sowdluapik said June 22 that he’s not worried about any serious delays to the harbour’s completion: he’s been assured that the port will be finished by October.
