Photo: Creativity and skill of Inuit seamstresses on display

The creativity and skill of Inuit seamstresses, including Kangirsuk’s Winnifred Nungak, pictured here with her son Nayen, were on display at the Northern Lights Business and Cultural Showcase in Ottawa on Feb. 1-3. In his keynote address, Nunavut Premier Paul Quassa spoke about how during the land claim negotiations Inuit leaders came to Ottawa wearing suits in order to look familiar to southerners and now “we come to Ottawa wearing clothes that our own designers and seamstresses have made,” highlighting our uniqueness.
