Photo: Cree walker arrives in Inukjuak

John Clarence Kawapit, the Cree man who is walking Nunavik’s coast to overcome his long-time alcohol dependency, arrives at his second destination, Inukjuak, Feb. 25, to a crowd of supporters and local residents. Kawapit did the first leg of the walk solo, leaving his hometown of Whapmagoostui Jan. 30 and arriving in Umiujaq Feb. 11. From there, four Nunavimmiut walkers joined Kawapit on the two-week journey to Inukjuak: Alaku Calvin, Jimmy Tooalook, Jimmy Tooktoo and David Qaqatuk.
