Photo: Diamond drilling begins at Hope Bay

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

An employee of TMAC Resources Inc.’s Hope Bay gold mine project unloads two large diamond drills from a Hercules plane at the Kitikmeot mine site this week. The equipment’s arrival marks the start of the surface drilling season, which will explore how deep the mine’s Doris gold deposit goes underground. Last fall, TMAC and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association agreed to a five-year renewal of the commercial lease for the Doris North mine as well as facilities at Robert’s Bay.
