Photo: Dump fire burns away as governments await air quality testing

Iqaluit’s dump fire smoulders away within a pile more than two storeys high, left, at the city’s landfill site June 8. The fire department says the blaze is under control and in no danger of spreading to the second pile on the right. Smoke blowing into the city with westerly winds has caused school closures and health concerns among residents. The Government of Nunavut and City of Iqaluit now say they’re working on a plan with Health Canada and Environment Canada to measure air quality in the city. (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
