Photo: Second harvest at Iqaluit greenhouse

Members of the Iqaluit Community Greenhouse Society reaped their second harvest of the summer July 16, which included a large crop of radishes and leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach, arugula, kale and Swiss chard. This year’s crop sprang up sooner than usual, thanks to earlier planting and favourably warm, sunny weather. The society has almost 40 members this year, who tend to the garden and harvest fast-growing vegetables every week. A portion of the crop goes to community-support organizations such as the men’s and women’s shelters, and the Qayuqtuvik Society soup kitchen. (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
